Hedrin 4% Lotion
by Hedrin
Facts checked
- What it is
A pesticide-free head lice lotion containing dimeticone. The patient leaflet says it works physically, by coating the lice, rather than as a chemical poison. The manufacturer says it is designed to kill both head lice and eggs. It is for adults and children aged 6 months and over.
- Key features
Dimeticone 4% w/w (other ingredient: cyclomethicone 5)
As stated by the manufacturer (see sources below). Formulas and specifications can change — check the pack or listing.
- How to use
Apply enough lotion to DRY hair to cover the scalp, working it from roots to tips, and let the hair dry naturally. Leave on for at least 8 hours or overnight, then wash with normal shampoo, rinse and dry. Repeat after 7 days to deal with any newly hatched lice.
- Cautions
For external use only. Avoid the eyes; flush with water if contact occurs. Do not use if allergic to either ingredient. Children under 6 months only under medical supervision. Keep treated hair away from naked flames, cigarettes and other ignition sources, because treated hair can burn easily. Spills can make surfaces slippery. If an allergic reaction occurs, wash it off and get medical advice. Ask a pharmacist if live lice are found after the second treatment. The manufacturer has not tested it on dyed hair or hair extensions and suggests a strand test on coloured hair.
