- What it is
A coal tar, salicylic acid and sulfur ointment in a coconut oil base. The manufacturer says it treats dry, scaly scalp conditions including dandruff, eczema, seborrhoeic dermatitis and psoriasis, by softening and removing scale and slowing its build-up.
- Key ingredients
Coal Tar Solution 12% w/w; Salicylic Acid 2% w/w; Sulfur for External Use 4% w/w (in a coconut oil base)
As stated by the manufacturer (see sources below). Formulas and specifications can change — check the pack or listing.
- How to use
Adults, children over 12 and the elderly: part the hair, apply a thin ribbon to the affected areas of the scalp, rub in gently and leave for about one hour, then wash out with warm water and a mild shampoo. Wash your hands straight afterwards. Use daily for 3–7 days at first, then once or twice a week as needed. See a doctor if there is no improvement after the first week or if symptoms persist after 4 weeks.
- Cautions
Children 6–12 only under medical supervision; not recommended under 6. Avoid the eyes, mouth and mucous membranes, and do not use on broken skin or where there is a local infection. Stop if irritation develops. May stain fabrics and jewellery. Fire risk: do not smoke or go near naked flames, because fabrics such as clothing, bedding and dressings that have been in contact with the ointment burn more easily.
